There is a lot of talk about the BlackBerry Bold 9980 R4 Porsche Knight aka the longest named BlackBerry ever. Screenshots have been coming out lately from a site called MaxPDA, which is the same site that claimed this would be the first QNX BlackBerry. Rumor points to the first QNX device being a fulltouchscreen device, which we’re apprehensive about because RIM has had a history of making really bad all-touch devices. More after the jump.

Porsche actually did an awesome job designing the “Knight” and the device name is pretty cool. Sure, it’s very different from a standard BlackBerry, especially since it’s silver and not the traditional black. But that’s what makes it even better. Also, the keyboard seems to be the same ergonomic style as the Bold 9900 and its predecessors. The device looks to be running BlackBerry 7 right now, and in all likelihood this will just be a limited issue device for Porsche owners. BUT – wouldn’t it be cool if RIM’s QWERTY/touchscreen hybrid QNX device was the Knight? It’s a stretch and it’s unlikely that a BlackBerry 7 device would be able to upgrade to QNX, but purely from a form factor perspective it would be pretty cool.
Personally, I haven’t liked any of RIM’s full touchscreen devices and the Bold 9900 is probably the best device RIM has ever made. Wouldn’t it make sense to capitalize on the success of the 9900 and launch a QNX device with this form factor? It will probably happen eventually but making an all-touch device first is incredibly risky given RIM’s history. I say put your best foot forward which is a QWERTY device.
